Operating System Requirements:
Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP. Windows 98 users require Internet Explorer 4.0 or later to use internet features. (e.g. Checking for updates, web based remote profile control/data reporting)
Processor Requirements:
486, or Pentium processor, or equivalent.
Memory Usage:
typically between 3-4 Megabytes, however the footprint
may be lower (due to use of virtual memory) on computers with less installed memory.
Consumption of memory resources is similar usage to WordPad or other small Windows
utilities. As a result, minimum machine memory requirements are dictated only by the installed version of Windows and other larger applications that are running.
CPU Usage:
Typically immeasurably small. Windows Task Manager normally indicates 0% of the CPU is dedicated to Guardian except during breaks when video stretches are being displayed. However, by the very nature of break time, the computer is free to dedicate CPU time to displaying the stretches because the user is otherwise idle.
Disk storage:
34 Megabytes for the Guardian-EOS Stretch Edition.
These are per computer estimates when Guardian is stored on local hard drives or per server, if Guardian is installed on a server. Data stored by Guardian uses about 75 Kilobytes per year per user.
Network compatibility:
Compatible with all standard networks (e.g., Windows, Novell etc) and can be operated over a thin client system (e.g. Citrix).
Network acess is only required if the network features of Guardian are being used
(eg. roaming profiles, roaming data, remote profile management etc) Users need only read and write access to a network drive. Guardian uses no other network services. Management of network file security is done entirely using Windows file system security to ensure reliability and to make implementation as simple as possible.
Network traffic:
The typical configuration - Guardian installed on the user's local hard drive but data and configuration information are stored on a network drive.
Typically this involves 3 or 4 network transmissions per hour per user of a few thousand bytes. Frequency of transmissions varies based on user activity, so the theoretical bandwidth range could be as low as 1K per hour (2bps) or as high as 100K per hour (200bps) per user.
Thin clients or server installations - bandwidth will increase because the video stretches (if enabled) will need to be transmitted over the network. Network bandwidth requirements are approximately 1.75MB per hour per user. If this bandwidth is too high for your network, lower bandwidth videos are available. Please provide us with desired bandwidth levels for your network so we can provide appropriate video content.
If Guardian, data and configuration information are stored on the local machine (ie. stand alone) then network bandwidth usage is zero.
Software compatibility:
Guardian is compatible with virtually any application. Ergonomicoffice investigates and attempts to resolve any report of software incompatibility. There are no known software compatibility issues and no software compatibility issues have been reported with the Guardian v4.0 since its initial release.
